Introduction

Janice McDonald is writer, producer and avid traveler, having visited all 50 states, more than 70 countries and all seven continents. Growing up in the days where her hometown of Myrtle Beach, SC, was a US Air Force town, Janice became fascinated with travel while listening to tales of her classmates who had lived in exotic places around the world. The ability to see the world for herself came while working with CNN for 20 years. She became adept at just grabbing a bag and going at a moment’s notice, something she still enjoys doing. Her adventures have taken her to Antarctica with the legendary oceanographer, Jacques Cousteau, to Hong Kong during the British handover to China and to the libraries of Timbuktu. She has found herself riding camels in Egypt, searching for polar bears in the Artic, planting trees in Ethiopia and building homes in Mongolia. She recently completed the 9th edition of "The Insider's Guide to the Grand Strand and Myrtle Beach" for Globe Pequot Press. Her work has appeared in Mobil Travel Guides, travelgirl Magazine, the Christian Science Monitor, Delta Sky Magazine, the Sunday Paper and Atlanta Style & Design, among others. In addition to her travel writing, Janice also continues her video production. She wrote and field produced the Vietnam and Taiwan episodes of the Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern" for the 2007 season. In addition, she has produced material for MTV, NBC, ABC, Fox Television, Real Simple Telvision and a documentary for the US Embassy in Helsinki, Finland. She has had 8 Emmy nominations and has won numerous awards for educational television production.

Since leaving, I have started my own company and am a freelance writer, writing various articles on travel and travel preparations.
